We are the Materials and Interface NanoTechnology Laboratory at the University of Maryland. The research group is led by Prof. Oded Rabin of the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering and the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics.

Our mission is to understand and exploit interactions between inorganic nanoscale objects and their chemical and physical environment. Our efforts involve chemical synthesis, materials characterization, and proof-of-principle devices fabrication.


Our lab is continuously expanding in synthetic and characterization capabilities. Currently available in 1100sqft of lab space is:
  • Two 6ft wide Labconco Protector Premier fumehoods

  • Standard chemistry lab equipment (ovens, glassware, balances, centrifuges, etc.)

  • MBraun Unilab glovebox (nitrogen) with freezer and electrical feedthroughs

  • Ecomet3 grinder-polisher

  • CVD reactor

  • Quantel Brilliant B solid-state Nd:YAG pulsed laser (850mJ/pulse @ 1064nm, 400mJ/pulse @ 532nm, 10Hz)

  • Hitachi U-2910 UV-vis spectrometer for liquid and film samples (λ=200-1100nm)

  • Amscope 7x-90x stereo inspection microscope with super large stand

  • Gamry Reference 600 Potentiostat/Galvanostat/ZRA

  • Horiba Jobin-Yvon LabRAM High Resolution Raman Microscope with laser sources at 532, 633, and 785nm, located at the FabLab

  • Bluewave Semiconductors Pulsed Laser + Thermal Deposition chamber

Additionally, a wide-range of instruments are available to us through the Maryland NanoCenter's FabLab (Micro & Nano Fabrication Laboratory), the AIMLab (Advanced Imaging & Microscopy Laboratory), and the MEMIL (Modern Engineering Materials Instructional Laboratory).
