Welcome!
We are the Materials and Interface NanoTechnology Laboratory at the University of Maryland.
The research group is led by Prof. Oded Rabin of the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering and the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics.
Our mission is to understand and exploit interactions between inorganic nanoscale objects and their chemical and physical environment. Our efforts involve chemical synthesis, materials characterization, and proof-of-principle devices fabrication.
- Graduate student - 1 Position Available (NEW as of Fall 2020)
A research assistant position in The Materials and Interface Nanotechnology Laboratory is immediately available for a graduate student enrolled at the University of Maryland.
The student will lead work on the development of temperature and heat-flux sensors for extreme conditions. The project is science-based and industrially-oriented, relevant to partners in the aerospace and energy-production arenas.
Students from all engineering and science departments with strong work ethics and intellectual curiousity are encouraged to apply. Background in finite-element modeling, thermal engineering, materials science or solid state-physics will be handy.

This is a paid position that should lead to a Masters or Ph.D. thesis.

Prospective graduate students must apply and be admitted by a department (MSE, Phys, Chem, ECE, etc.) at the University of Maryland.
You may email Prof. Rabin after you have applied to UMD to inform me of your interest in joining the research group. The subject line must read "MINT PhD, your name, your status (Prospective, Admitted, Enrolled)". I do not/cannot influence admissions decisions.
Prospective graduate student ordinarily will meet with Prof. Rabin and the lab members and visit the lab before officially joining the lab.
- Postdoctoral Fellow - 1 Position Available (FILLED as of Fall 2019)
The Materials and Interface Nanotechnology Laboratory is seeking a talented postdoctoral research fellow.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative research project between Profs. Salamanca-Riba, Rabin, Wuttig and Hu of the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, in the area of Advanced Materials Processing.
The project aims to understanding the effect of carbon nanostructures on the electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of metal matrices. The project involves industry partners.
Education: PhD in Materials Science or related area.
Experience: Priority will be given to candidates with experience in Metallurgy, High-Temperature Materials Processing, Thermal conductivity measurements, TEM, carbon-metal composites, and Instrument design.
Experience in Thin-film processing, Electrochemistry, Raman spectroscopy is advantageous.
The position is available immediately. Applicant must be available to work full-time by Aug 1, 2019. We offer a competitive salary and health benefits.

- Postdoctoral Fellow - Position Available (external funding is currently being pursued)
The Materials and Interface Nanotechnology Laboratory is seeking a talented postdoctoral research fellow for a project in the field of Plasmonics.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemistry, or an Engineering field from a prestigious university (if foreign, the candidate must be able to attend an interview at Maryland).
The candidate past studies should have focused in the field of Solid State Physics or Optics. Proficiency in Electron Beam Lithography is a must. Past experience with simulations is a plus. Demonstrated research leadership (e.g. first author publications in leading journals) is required.
